District 4 ILMEA Honors Festival
Congratulations to junior high student Malena Bixby and high school students Bailie Dill, Luke Emmert and Alex Wilkinson for being selected to the District 4 ILMEA Honor Festival that took place yesterday at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. These students auditioned back in October along with hundreds of other students from across central Illinois and were talented enough to be selected! Malena, Bailie and Luke were selected for the honor band ensembles and Alex was selected for the honor choir. Congratulations!

SEMA Junior High Honor Band
Congratulations to Jaxson Taylor, Kali Marvin, Justin Royer, Malena Bixby, Tessa Peecher, Sierra Eigenmann, Rudie Logerquist, Grace Savage, Hunter Wells, Wyatt Spradlin, and Daniel Kloppe for participating in the SEMA Honor Band last Thursday at Glenwood High School. The students rehearsed all day with guest conductor Dr. David Vroman from Bradley University and put on a culminating concert later that night. A special congratulations to Malena Bixby for playing the only solo of the evening!

Friday Night Football and Fall Festival

6th Grade Fundraiser Reward
The 6th grade band did an amazing job selling items for our annual fundraiser, and as a reward for meeting their goal, we went to the park yesterday and ate lunch! It was a beautiful day!

2015 High School Marching Band Camp
Band camp is required of all Marching Band members, and will be held at New Berlin
High School (there is no cost). Students should meet in the band room at the start of each rehearsal. Students may pack a lunch to eat on the breaks in the
band room if they wish. Please clear any potential work conflicts in advance.

Happy Memorial Day
Thank you to the high school band for performing at the New Berlin Memorial Day Ceremony yesterday. The band played an Armed Forces Medley, as well as the National Anthem and a Patriotic Medley. Hunter Mitchell also played taps at the end of the ceremony after the rifle salute. An even bigger thank you goes to all of the members of the armed forces who have served our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for your service!

Spring Band Concert

Great Job 5th Grade Band
The fifth grade band put on an excellent performance last thursday night at their spring concert! This very special fifth grade group is not only the largest group we've had in a long time at 35 members, but also performed three very challenging full band arrangements! I am so proud of this group! Congratulations everyone!

Junior High Band Six Flags Trip
The junior high band had a great time at Six Flags last Friday for the Music in the Parks Festival! The students performed a wonderful concert in the afternoon and had the morning and evening to explore the park!

High School Band Chicago Trip
The high school band students spent three days this past weekend in Chicago both attending clinics with outstanding music educators in the area and visiting some of the best attractions the city has to offer! Thank you to our chaperones Nancy Fromme and Miriam Stowell and to Entourage Management (and our tour director Kevin Shaw) for making the trip a success! Most importantly, thank you to the band members for being model students the entire trip and making it fun and memorable for everyone involved! Here are some pictures from the trip!

Tri-County Honor Band
Congratulations to the high school band students who participated in the Tri-County Honor Band at Auburn High School last Thursday. Our students rehearsed all day with students from Auburn, Northwestern, North Mac, Pawnee, Riverton and Waverly. The students had the distinct privilege to work with Professor Barry Houser from the University of Illinois. Under his direction, the students put on a fantastic evening performance. Thank you to Professor Houser for his world class instruction! Congrats to all!

Ukulele Class Performs at Local Retirement Home
Thank you to the 8th grade music appreciation students who performed and lead a sing-a-long today at Bickford Senior Living of Springfield. Our students have been learning the ukulele over the course of the past few weeks and were able to show off their new talent and brighten the day of some senior residents of Springfield. Thank you to the IEA SCORE Grant initiative for funding our ukulele project and helping to make today possible!
